Its origin is people's love and worship for nature.On this day it was said that girls and young women in the past would do the needlework， dry clothes and books in the sunshine and so on. Many legends about the festival have disappeared, just leaving the famous story of Altair and Vega.The story goes like this: Zhi Nv was said to be the youngest of seven daughters of the Queen of Heaven. she worked hard with her sisters to weave beautiful clouds in the sky. Niu Lang was a poor orphan cowherd, driven out of his home by his elder brother. They met each other and got married. They had a son and a daughter and lived happily. Unfortunately, good days didn't last long. Having known this, the Queen and the God separated them and took their daughter back. Niu Lang rushed to rescue his wife. When he was about to catch up with her, the Queen pulled out of a gold hairpin and made a strok. Then the Milky Way appeared and stopped Niu Lang. They stared at each other day and night. The magpies were moved and decided to get together to form a bridge across the Milky Way so that Niu Lang and Zhi Nv could meet each other on this day each year.
At night on this day, you sit outdoors and when the sky is dotted with stars, you can see the Milky Way from the north to the south.
